Meg Fernandez from Robinson High School,
who will present the "The Cube" and November Career Fair.
Meg Fernandez graduated from Stonehill College, a small liberal arts college near Boston, with a B.A. in psychology. For six years she was employed by SCM/ Durkee Foods in food service sales and sales management. A developing interest in how people use their skills and desires in the workplace merged with an opportunity to become a ‘headhunter’ where for fourteen years Meg assisted clients in finding talented sales, sales management, and marketing professionals for positions throughout the country. Her client companies were mainly in the medical and pharmaceutical industry and included several divisions of Johnson and Johnson, Boston Scientific, Oral B, and Ciba Geigy.
Looking for an opportunity to use her work skills as a volunteer here in Tampa Bay, Meg became aware of the need for high school students to receive additional guidance beyond what was being offered at their public high school. Meg and another interested parent volunteer developed a college and career center at a local high school. Within one year The Cube college and career center had earned an award from the Florida Department of Education. Now in its fifth year, The Cube is staffed by twenty five parent volunteers who meet with high school juniors and seniors to help them develop a working plan for further education/training after high school.
