South Tampa Chamber to support the Selmon Extension
Dear Valued Members & Community Partners,
On June 20th, the board of directors of the South Tampa Chamber voted unanimously to support the Selmon Extension, a project that will add 1.6 miles of elevated toll roads connecting the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway and Gandy Bridge.
With several new businesses recently opened on Gandy Boulevard, and more currently under development, traffic to visit these destination locations will only increase. Additionally, several residential communities are planned to be developed both to the immediate north and south of the Gandy corridor over the next few years bringing thousands of new residents to South Tampa. The Chamber feels that a timely solution must be implemented in order to improve and sustain the quality of life for both the businesses and residents of South Tampa. After months of discussion with the Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority, and businesses along Gandy Boulevard, we feel that the Selmon Extension will provide much needed relief to the road congestion along this main artery through our community.
As the project progresses, our number one priority will continue to be to educate and support the businesses along Gandy Boulevard. The South Tampa Chamber of Commerce looks forward to working in partnership with the Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority and other community organizations to find ways to make the process as seamless as possible for both our businesses and residents who will be most affected by the project.
