    South Tampa Chamber of Commerce gives charitable donation and student scholarships at Annual Meeting 

    TAMPA, FL  - The South Tampa Chamber of Commerce hosted their 2016 Annual Meeting on May 18 at the Centre Club with more than 150 members in attendance. The event was sponsored by Bright House Business Solutions and served to celebrate the Chamber’s 90th Anniversary and to recognize many of the organization’s members including past board chairmen who helped the Chamber achieve success throughout the years.
     
    For the second year, the Chamber’s Education Committee presented two student scholarships provided by the Bank of Tampa and the Tampa Bay Higher Education Alliance. The student recipients were The student recipients were Shannon Murphy of H.B. Plant High School and Courtney Schear from T.R. Robinson High School. Shannon played Tennis and Golf at Plant and participated in the National English Honor Society, National Honor Society, and Students Against Destructive Decisions. She is currently duel enrolled at HCC and plans to go to Santa Fe in Gainesville. Courtney was a member of Robinson's competitive cheerleading team for 2 years, a student ambassador and member of the National Spanish Honors Society. She is going to FSU as an exploratory major and intends to major in biological sciences with a pre-veterinary track.     The Chamber also presented Metropolitan Ministries with a donation from the recent Taste of South Tampa that was held at the Tampa Garden Club on May 15th. “We were proud to partner with Metropolitan Ministries again this year and are thrilled to present them with this donation because we know it will serve those in need right here in our community,” said Chamber president, Kelly Flannery.
     
    Several chamber members were introduced as new Ambassadors and a Chamber Champions Program was announced to reward members who have referred more than 5 new members to the Chamber in a 12-month time frame. Bright House Networks and Older Lundy & Alvarez Attorneys at Law were inducted as the first members of the Chamber’s new Chairman’s Club, a premier membership level established this year.
     
    Chairman Bill Yanger said “We have much to celebrate! 2015 was a record year for the South Tampa Chamber and we have already welcomed more than 90 new members this year. It is a very good time for business and event better time to get involved in our Chamber. Our members are the heart and soul of our organization and we want to recognize them and their achievements at every opportunity we have.”
