  • Tampa General Hospital Storm-Hardening Project

Work begins July 25th. - To ensure that electric and natural gas service to Tampa General remains reliable after a significant storm, Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas are planning some changes.

Currently, electric and gas service is provided along the Plant Avenue bridge. Electric and gas utilities will be removed from the bridge and will be installed underneath the channel.

This project will ensure that Tampa General, the region's only Level 1 trauma center, will be able to provide the highest level of care without interruption, even after a hurricane or other natural disaster.

This is a large undertaking, and construction will take several months. The work will intermittently disrupt traffic. TECO and Tampa General are working closely with the city of Tampa to minimize traffic disruption as much as possible.
