Education Committee

The Education Committee provides support to the teachers and students in all District Area One Schools.  From an annual Teacher Welcome Breakfast and Senior High School Students’ Computer Scholarship program, to monthly Outstanding Student of the Month presentations, mentoring/tutoring and supply drive events, the Education Committee is the link for Chamber Members to interact and positively develop the future leaders of the community and Chamber. Working on the Education Committee is a very rewarding experience.
 
The Education Committee strives to bring our community and schools together by acting as a liaison between the business and education communities. This committee provides volunteers the opportunity to connect with and give back to our local area schools.
 
We have opportunities for Chamber Members to help in many different capacities with varying levels of commitment. Some of the ways a member can participate in our schools are:

New Teachers Welcome Breakfast 
Since 2006, the South Tampa Chamber sponsors this annual event. All principals and teachers new to their profession or schools from Area 1 of the School District of Hillsborough County are invited to the breakfast. This event provides the new teachers and principals the opportunity to network in a casual environment and meet their local business supporters.

Each new teacher receives breakfast and a goody bag from the Chamber including various premiums and special offers from area businesses.  School Board and Chamber Board Members are in attendance as well as members of the Superintendent of Schools' staff.

Great American Teach-In
The Teach-In is a one day commitment that is typically held the second week in November. It provides a forum for members to make a presentation to our schools. We especially try to assist schools without a strong parent base of interesting professionals.

Student of the Month Award
The South Tampa Chamber Student of the Month Award is an award presented monthly to a middle school or high school student that has shown exceptional commitment to their school and community. The schools choose the individual and we invite the parents, principal, and student to enjoy a complimentary lunch to honor that student.
