  • Non-Profit Guide: Needs Due To COVID-19

Many individuals within the community are looking for
volunteer or donation opportunities in response to the COVID-19 crisis.

Here is a list of local non-profit businesses that are looking for help during this time:

Lions Eye Institute for Transplant and Research
Lions Eye Institute is in a Fight for Sight! They have established a COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund that will:
    • Ensure we can continue to recover and prepare tissue for emergency cornea surgeries.
    • Bridge the financial gap in this unprecedented time.
    • Purchase essential supplies needed to recover and prepare transplant corneas.
    • Retain our essential staff so we will be ready to address the increased need for our services.

Because cornea transplant surgeries are currently defined as elective surgeries, their organization's revenues were impacted by 70% when ambulatory surgery centers closed about two weeks ago. However, the need for cornea transplant surgeries is growing. They need to keep the essential staff retained for emergency transplant surgeries and prepare for a backlog of surgeries that will surge once surgery centers open. The need for their surgeries is increasing and they can rise to support the need with your help.

    Meals on Wheels of Tampa

Donations: Financial contributions towards operating expenses and purchasing additional supplies would be greatly appreciated

    Project Transition USA
Project Transition USA does have a need for volunteers, however you must know how to use LinkedIn or have a desire to learn the website.

Donations: They need to raise $12,500 in cash to continue their project to convert their MacDill AFB LinkedIn Workshop into an online course and provide much needed support for their transitioning troops at this difficult time. If you'd like to donate, visit their website to do so

    Feeding Tampa Bay

Feeding Tampa Bay is an essential facility and they are working hard to ensure their neighbors have the food they need during this critical time. Many of their families struggle to provide everyday meals, and with extended breaks and closures, this need is increasing to levels they've never seen before.

Donations are much needed! Please donate by visiting their website.

Volunteers are crucial in their coronavirus response efforts and they need you to #standwithFTB now more than ever. All volunteer opportunities have been re-designed to meet the latest CDC guidelines and to promote social distancing. If you would like to volunteer, please visit their website to sign up for an upcoming shift.

    Guardian ad Litem/Voices for Children
In need of volunteers! Now more than ever, foster children in our community need a reassuring presence in their lives. Information sessions can now be scheduled telephonically in a one on one session or in a group call. Visit their website or email sharon.beningfield@gal.fl.gov

    Metropolitan Ministries
Financial donations are needed due to the fact that 75% of the families that have recently reached out to Metropolitan Ministries for help have never sought help from the Ministries or another social service agency in the past. They have never had to face a need like this before. Although the community response has been amazing, the community’s continued support is still greatly needed. They are also in need of food and other items. Please find their current greatest needs list as follows: Food: cereal, canned vegetables, canned fruit, canned meats, beans, peanut butter Hygiene Items: shampoo/conditioner, bar soap/body wash, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, deodorant and razors Baby Products: diapers (4-7), baby wipes, baby food and formula Additional Needs: Masks, temporal/infrared thermometers, hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes, and cleaning products.

Metropolitan Ministries has set up an Emergency Impact Fund. which will help them IMMEDIATELY provide essential hygiene, healthcare, and food supplies to those who are homeless or struggling in the wake of COVID-19. They will continue to provide services and assistance as long as they have the necessary resources and funding needed. They are also updating their website, almost daily, with their most critical needs and other important COVID-19 related updates.

    Dress for Success Tampa Bay
Dress for Success Tampa Bay is a non-profit organization that has been serving the women of the Bay since 1998 by providing job readiness programs, professional suiting, resume writing, career counseling, and job retention skill building services.
In these unprecedented times, like many non-profits, they are experiencing significant financial challenges.  Dress For Success Tampa Bay has been operating on a remote basis but as the state begins the process of re-opening, they have their plan to re-open.  In order to do so, they need your support with donations of latex gloves, disposable face masks, and hand sanitizer to protect staff, volunteers, and the clients they serve.
Any financial assistance that can be provided to help them continue their Moving Forward Program; an eight-week job readiness class would also be greatly appreciated.
